Greenfield fries plant: from feasibility to commissioning
A french fries processing plant in Saudi Arabia, for one of the largest potato growers in the Middle East.
The challenge
Our client, one of the largest potato growers and seed distributors in the Middle East, had long wanted to build the most modern fries plant in the region. Fully integrated: from cultivation and storage to processing and its own frozen distribution.
After visiting equipment manufacturers in Europe and North America, a turn-key solution seemed the only option. But every supplier had strengths and weaknesses, and none offered a mechanically and electrically fully integrated line. The quotes received were miles apart in specification, price and quality. The client then brought in GPE.
The solution
Together with the client, GPE drew up a set of requirements and turned it into a Request for Quotation. This gave every pre-selected supplier exactly the same request.
The brief: stay within a tight budget for all processing and packing equipment, with no compromise on quality and only renowned, specialised European suppliers. GPE screened every candidate and ranked them on price, efficiency, build and performance.
Three detailed scenarios were worked out per line module, apples to apples, so that each scope of supply was fully comparable.
The result
A state-of-the-art fries plant, delivered within budget and built to the latest industry standards. The client saved 20% on the original machinery budget.
As part of the project, GPE also planned and designed a potato flakes line, ready for implementation. It will let the client process fries waste and undersized potatoes as well.
