Independent engineering for a family business
A 15 t/h sorting and packing line for potatoes and onions, balancing investment and operating costs.
The challenge
A family business in the Caribbean asked GPE to design a sorting and packing line of 15 tonnes per hour. Technically reliable, matching the required capacity and product specifications, and within a manageable investment level.
CAPEX had to stay limited without giving up process efficiency, reliability or maintainability. At the same time the design had to support low operating costs. The owners wanted an independent partner able to assess international technologies and suppliers.
The solution
GPE developed an integrated plant design, treating equipment selection, material flows and layout as one coherent process.
Optimising CAPEX and OPEX
By assessing technologies and suppliers independently, GPE could weigh different configurations and avoid unnecessary complexity and oversizing.
Beyond the investment, operating costs were weighed too: staffing needs, maintenance access, spare parts availability and reliability. The aim was the lowest total cost of ownership over the life of the installation.
The result
An integrated technical design, matched to the family business’s capacity requirements, operational needs and investment framework.
By combining independent advice with process engineering and on-site guidance, the client could make well-founded investment choices for an efficient, practical solution.
